Announcing Mastodon.is

A few months ago, I setup a mastodon instance. Mostly to play around with it and mostly to see who is there. Basically, think of mastodon as twitter or instagram if everyone ran their own servers or could dedicate instances to various topics. There's a Japanese instance, a trolling instance, a sex worker instance, and the list goes on. Whatever community you think would exist, it probably does somewhere on the Internet, and probably also on Mastodon. For the 99% of the world not interested in walking through a complex set of configurations, just join an existing server, or rent your own at Masto.host and create your own community.

Why mastodon.is? The .is is for Iceland. Because Iceland is awesome and as I'm continuing to learn Icelandic, I figured why not. Also, Iceland has a long history of non-censorship of content on domains, unless it's actual child exploitation material--which is fine by me to take down.

Fyrir nokkrum mánuðum setti ég upp mastodon dæmi. Aðallega að leika sér við það og að mestu leyti til að sjá hver er þarna. Í grundvallaratriðum, hugsa um mastodon sem kvak eða instagram ef allir réðu eigin netþjónum sínum eða gætu helgað dæmi um ýmis málefni. Það er japanska dæmi, trolling dæmi, kynlíf starfsmaður dæmi, og listinn heldur áfram. Hvaða samfélag sem þú heldur að væri til, það gerist líklega einhvers staðar á Netinu, og líklega einnig á Mastodon. Fyrir 99% af heiminum sem ekki hefur áhuga á að ganga í gegnum flókið sett af stillingum, taktu bara þátt í núverandi netþjóni eða leigðu þína eigin á Masto.host og búðu til eigin samfélag.

Af hverju mastodon.is? .Is er fyrir Ísland. Vegna þess að Ísland er frábært og ég er að halda áfram að læra íslensku, hugsaði ég afhverju ekki. Einnig hefur Ísland langa sögu um óskoðun á efni á lénum, nema það sé raunverulegt barnsnýtingarefni - sem mér er fínt að taka niður.

Ef þú skilur eftir athugasemd sendi ég þér boðslóð til að búa til reikning. Ég er ekki tilbúinn til að takast á við onslaught reikninga og notenda, bara ennþá.
