Opting Out is The Road Not Taken
With respect and acknowledgement to Robert Frost.
Two worlds diverged in the digital age,
And sorry I could not live in both
And be one person, long I weighed
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it blurred in the virtual haze.
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the greater claim,
Because it was marked by human care;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In choices no heart had dared to make.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever retrace.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two worlds diverged in the digital age,
and I—I took the path less logged by,
And that has made all the difference.
You may feel there's No Way Out, yet there is always Opting Out and Switching Software.
